The Heroine's Journey - Second Nature #9
Wisdom from an outdoor legend who has conquered every element and created the blueprint for many others to follow.
Starting Line
This week we welcomed Rebecca Rusch to the podcast, and it was insight and inspirational, to say the least. Imagine building a career in the outdoor industry without a blueprint - that’s exactly what she did (and continues to do). We are lucky to have mentors like Rebecca, who have not only blazed the trail for us - but are willing to share what they’ve learned.
The Heroine’s Journey - Episode 9
Rebecca Rusch is a legend in the outdoor industry. She has conquered and become world champion in multiple outdoor and endurance sports as an athlete, and along the way has blazed a meaningful trail for athletes who aspire to follow her footsteps with their own careers, businesses, events, charities, speaking engagements and Emmy award-winning films. In this episode, Rebecca opens up about her journey, the lessons she's learned along the way, and gives us a glimpse into what's on the horizon. I had the pleasure of working with Rebecca as her Athlete Marketing Manager during our time together at Red Bull and it has been fascinating to watch her career develop over the years.
Watch This
We mentioned it a few times in the podcast, but if you haven’t already watched this film, now is a good time to check it out. This film transformed Rebecca’s career and opened the door to so much more beyond competition, and to be fair, I think it helped Red Bull move past “shred films” in a meaningful way as well. Blood Road is something special (and it’s free to watch at the link below).
Brand, Product Content
Rebecca’s BPC for this week is the upcoming Outside Festival, and event that she’ll be attending and participating in the “Bringing Outdoor Women In” panel. Check out the link to get more details and depth on this massive gathering in Denver, coming up in the next few weeks.
Aaron’s BPC this week was the “rogue intern” from the mocktail brand MixoloShe. The category of non-alcoholic drinks is thick with competition as existing brands and new brands enter, but Nicole The Intern is zigging when everyone else is zagging. If you haven’t seen this yet, check it out now. This is sure to be a marketing case study for years to come. This rogue intern has tripled the brand’s e-mail list, boosted their sales by 130% and amassed a “Smash Army” of over 300k followers in the past month.
