The Future Of The Outdoor Industry
Return to office or out of office? Nike takes a stand, we have some thoughts.
Starting Line
We are back! Episode six launches today, one of our favorite discussions so far. Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback with us as we continue to develop Second Nature. We are excited about where this is going, and we hope you are, too!
Today’s Episode
In this episode we cover the biggest bike festival in the USA, Sea Otter, and some thoughts on how to build relationships with sponsors. We also talk about Nike’s slowing growth and their return-to-office plan, then a discussion around the city of Portland’s $125M investment into footwear manufacturing startups. BPC does not disappoint, either. You can also check it out on Apple or Spotify podcasts, if you prefer the audio experience. Enjoy!
The Sea Otter Panels
We mentioned a panel that Rebecca Rusch led during the podcast, but there were other important panels over the weekend as well. Izzy Lidsky did a photo essay from all three panels with some insights from each.
We’re Bookworms, No Surprise.
Here’s a list of books that we’ve referenced in the past few pods:
1. Supermaker
2. The Hard Thing About Hard Things
3. The Infinite Game
4. Hero With A Thousand Faces
5. Born To Run

Brand, Product, Content
Aleck Tocsen crash sensor. This little puck attaches to your helmet (and will be integrated in future helmets from Smith - and likely others) to alert your emergency contacts when you’ve had a bad crash on the bike. This is a great example of something that needed to exist…and it finally does. Very cool.
Samaya Equipment. Here’s a shot of the pack that Dylan just shared in BPC - and bought! Very cool company doing a ton of outdoor gear with clean design.
Trailgating - Canyons 100k
Here’s the latest video from Freetrail in preparation for this weekend’s Canyons 100k. Keep it locked to the Freetrail YouTube channel this weekend for coverage from the event! Make sure to get your fantasy picks in, too.
Thank You
